Quick Thai Basil Beef Recipe

Ready in 20 minutes and serves 4, this delicious Pad Kra Pao is a stir-fry with ground beef, garlic, chilies, and Thai basil, served over jasmine rice.

  • 1 pound ground beef grass-fed recommended
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Thai bird’s eye chilies finely chopped adjust to spice preference
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil peanut oil preferred
  • 1 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. oyster sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. fish sauce
  • 1 tsp. sugar brown sugar ideal
  • 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves crucial for authentic taste
  • cooked jasmine rice for serving
  • fried egg optional for topping

Equipment

  • Wok or cast-iron skillet
  • Wooden spoon

Method
 

  1. Minced garlic and finely chop the chilies.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  3. Add garlic and chopped chilies to the oil, stirring for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it apart, until browned, about 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and sugar; cook for another minute until combined.
  6. Add fresh Thai basil leaves and stir-fry for another minute until the basil wilts.
  7. Serve the Thai Basil Beef over jasmine rice and top with a fried egg if desired.

Notes

Storage: refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
