Ingredients

Group: Main Ingredients
  • 3 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 Tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. freshly cracked black pepper
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Refrigerator

Method

  1. Melt the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt, cooking slowly for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Let the caramelized onions cool for a few minutes. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and grated Parmesan cheese.
  3. Gently fold in the cooled caramelized onions into the creamy mixture until well combined.
  4. Cover and refrigerate the dip for at least 1 hour (preferably overnight) before serving.
  5. Before serving, stir the dip and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve with crackers, vegetables, or baguette slices.

Notes

Ensure to caramelize the onions slowly for the best flavor and always allow the dip to chill to meld the flavors.
